Secrets to a 5-Figure Launch

Last May, Leah and I teamed up for the launch of her Stress Less & Impress e-course; a self-study program that walked freelancers through systematizing their business for success.

Since Leah is a humble woman, she likely hasn’t told you that her first launch was a 5-figure launch. The Freelance to Freedom community grew because of the launching of the course, and the participants businesses grew because of taking this course.

Win-Win-Win!

As a launch specialist, over time, I started to recognize patterns to a 5-figure launch. Today, I want to take the time to give back to Leah’s readers by sharing the secrets to her success.

1) Research, Research & More Research

No matter how amazing your launch strategy or package is, without research, it will fall flat. The most successful launches I have seen come directly out of what people ask for.

Leah conducted a survey before even thinking about what course to create. She discovered that freelancers struggled with systems in their businesses and how to get clients. Since freelance systems was one of her specialties, she chose this as the focus for her first product.

If you’d like to ensure your product is aligned with the needs of your customers, try a simple survey like Leah did or conduct in-person interviews.

Ask your ideal clients:

  • What they struggle with most
  • What the ideal solution to their problem would be

Use the feedback you receive to help create your product or offering.

2) Create Desire Now

Successful launches build desire long in advance of the product being for sale. Start talking about the product you are making now and take your followers on the product creation journey with you. If you engage your potential clients earlier on, you won’t need to sell very hard when the product goes to market.

Leah started by writing “Behind the Scenes” blog posts. You can read her posts here. She started creating desire 4 months before the actual launch of her Stress Less & Impress e-course. The timing was perfect as it built the necessary engagement and momentum to bring on her successful launch.

Create desire now by providing sneak peeks and behind the scenes experiences for your followers. {Note from Leah: This is also great for accountability as it ensures you won’t procrastinate or let fear get in the way of putting your genius out into the world.} 

3) Ask for Help

There is only one rule when it comes to launching: never launch alone.

You will need help.

Tech help.
Design help.
Cooking help.
Cleaning help.

Professional help (yes, it might make sense to book an appointment with your therapist).

Leah asked for support by hiring me (a great choice, if I do say so myself). She was feeling overwhelmed. She needed someone else to lay out the tasks and write the copy on her behalf. I was happy to do so and Leah slept better every night.

  • I’m just about re-launch my blogging e-course but now as three levels of e-courses. Eeeek! It’s so much work to think about, and I really don’t think I’ve had enough of a launch strategy really. I guess my key tip so far has been to build a buzz on social media and be really open about what course entails.

      Yes, that was huge for me…start talking about it as early as possible, give away your best content ahead of time even if that seems scary, and don’t hesitate to show lots of behind the scenes! Good luck with your launch, I’m sure it will be fabulous!

  • This is really interesting to read because I can trace back how these methods led me to sign up for this actual course. I didn’t know anything about Leah or her community, but came across what must have been one of her blog posts during the “creating desire” phase. It was so full of good information that I bookmarked it. And then I eventually signed up for the course, which was fabulous. BOOM.

      Ah I love it Nicole! Honestly, since this was my first time around, it wasn’t as calculated as it might sound. It was more those posts and how much great feedback I got that made me realize that more on that subject was needed. And I love sharing what I’m doing while doing it :) But now I’ve learned how important it is to start sharing related stuff well in advance! So glad you loved the course!

  • It seems to me that with every launch there comes a unique set of problems. It shouldn’t be unexpected, but it’s crazy how some people tend to get hung up on something. Maybe one site has successful traffic, but can’t monetize their site while others can’t muster the courage to release a membership offer or charge more than the price of an e-book. Asking for help and soliciting advice from your community can help ease your fears.

  • Awesome write-up, I love learning about how others did it. I did my first mini-launch a month ago (VERY little and kinda spontaneous) but I am gearing up for another (this time, big) launch at the end of this year or early next year (was originally gonna happen, like, now but decided on revamping the content of the course quite a bit to make it better).
